Thame Walking Routes

Since the launch of the Green Living Plan in 2020, two new walking routes in and around Thame have been developed.

  1. Thame Inner Circuit: A 4 mile walking route, making use of existing paths, pavements, tracks and trails within the town. Including an alternative walk that avoids paths that could get muddy, or are not lit for evening and rainy-day walks.
  2. Thame Outer Circuit: An approximately 20 mile circular walk through the Oxfordshire countryside surrounding Thame, with linking routes allowing exploration of shorter sections. This route connects villages around Thame.

These routes are available electronically on Thame Town Council’s website, and paper copies can also be collected from their Information Centre at Thame Town Hall.

Out objective in supporting the creation of these walks were to

  • encourage more people to walk, walk more and enjoy the experience
  • To improve fitness and mobility
  • To enable people to enjoy the great outdoors
  • To help us all to use our cars less, reducing road congestion and improving air quality

Next steps

There is an aspiration to develop a new mid-Thame circuit, but this will mean agreeing new footpath routes and creating new links to form a route of approximately 10 miles around and just outside the town’s current built up areas. Anyone interested in helping out with this project, get in touch using the form on the right.

If you notice any issues on any of these walks, please let the right people know:

For any on-street issues, report them through Fix my Street

For any issues on walks in the countryside, a good place to start is with Thame & Wheatley Ramblers
